India Diaries

January 20, 2024

I came back from a month’s travel in India and Singapore. I love traveling… not just for the change of pace but also seeing how fashion is defined in other cultures. India is unique – a mix of Indian and western wear. You can wear hoodies and jeans or you can wear the traditional saree. Anything works in India and it’s pretty cool. I found myself going to Bapu Bazaar and bought myself a kundan set – a beautiful set you can wear to an Indian wedding.

I also went to the famous Meena Bazaar and bought a gorgeous rani pink silk saree. I was never into sarees because it’s a process to wear and challenging to walk in. But you know what.. the movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani has completely changed my mind. Alia Bhatt (the lead actress in the movie) wore such amazing sarees that I wanted to have some in my Indian wardrobe too. Not only did I buy one from Meena Bazaar but I also bought one from Satya Paul. Satya Paul is well known designer based in India that makes the most unique sarees – bold prints and patterns is what caught my interest. I have always wanted a Satya Paul saree since I was seventeen. Now I have two gorgeous sarees and I plan to surprise my husband one (err two) of these days since he loves when a woman wears a saree. 😉

Wanted to share some photos of a wedding we attended in Jaipur, Rajasthan. See below. These are modern “westernized” Indian gowns. The white gown is from Seasons and the purple one is from Kalki. If you’re looking for a stand-out Indian outfit to wear at a big event like a wedding, I highly recommend these two stores – they always have a trendy collection that’s current with today’s fashion and style.

If you’re planning on making your first (or another) trip to India, here’s what I recommend-

  • Stay at an airport hotel in Andheri East. There are MANY five-star hotels in the airport’s vicinity offering impeccable service and incredible dining (the breakfast spread is unbelievable!). Staying in proximity to the airport allows for easy commute to and from the hotel. I recommend the gorgeous JW Marriott Sahar hotel- it’s only seven minutes away from the Mumbai Int’l airport and is equipped with so many amenities for a hotel stayer to enjoy!

  • Shopping at the Jio World Plaza. If you’re someone who loves strolling by or shopping at high-end malls, this is the mall for you! It’s brand new too. Be sure to check out Satya Paul, Biba, Gucci and YSL. Of course there are a ton more but I’m not going to list them all here lol.

  • Food. Yes.. of course. No bias but imho, Indian cuisine is one of the best cuisines in the world because of its spices, flavor and variety. If you’re feeling super hungry and want to dine and truly enjoy the best Indian food, I suggest trying any of the following:
