My Favorite Places

February 19, 2024

Hey guys!

Thought this post would be ideal for someone who’s looking for some local R&R.

  1. Buddhist shrine – The first one I ever visited was an invite from a friend. The Rubin Museum in Manhattan. Not only did I learn about the principles and foundation of Buddhism, I also sat in their incredibly calming shrine— dark with a lot of lit candles and some incense (sandalwood, perhaps?). I remember I went here on a Friday after work (which is the best time to go as you close out a busy work week). Sitting inside of this beautifully decorated shrine, I was instantly inspired.. feeling transported to a calm state of mind. I highly recommend visiting one if you ever feel the need to escape any form of chaos in your life.

  2. Spa treatment – I’m not talking about getting your nails done. I’m talking about a relaxing deep tissue massage and/or a reassuring facial. My personal favorite is the Thai massage. The masseuse always knows how to get rid of any soreness or stiffness as gently as possible. And just so you know… most salons offer a generous discount to first time customers so take advantage!

  3. Rooftop bars – People typically go with a group of friends or their S/O to a rooftop bar/lounge. I have too BUT I’ve always wanted to get dressed up and go solo. Take in the cityscape views while enjoying my favorite cocktail— what’s not to enjoy? Plus, it is gratifying and rewarding to be able to have a night to yourself when you’re done with pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  4. Weekend brunch/Coffee cafes – This isn’t anything new. A lot of people in the US love to brunch— including me. My husband and I brunch every weekend and look forward to it. It’s a perfect start to a weekend… before we need to run all the errands for baby, home, etc.

  5. Picnics – I used to be anti-picnics because I never wasn’t into eating on the ground. But being that my husband loves to visit parks and take a stroll— the idea has started to grow on me. Now I love it and my baby enjoys it. So if you don’t like picnicking, I suggest giving it another shot when the day is nice and the sky is blue. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it!

  6. Bookstores – I prefer bookstores over libraries because they’re usually adjoined with a coffee shop or cafe. I find having coffee + reading + headphones is a recipe for the perfect me-time.

  7. The beach – I think this should take the number one spot on this list. It’s the feng shui that draws me in. Being near water means tranquility and serenity. And then you have the boardwalk that caters to both locals and tourists. Santa Monica has it all with beaches, shops, bars, restaurants, etc. If you haven’t been to SM, I highly recommend you adding it to your bucket list of places of vacation spots.

I’ll be adding to this list so please check back for more if you are looking for things to do solo or with a group!
