My husband and I thoroughly enjoy(ed) living in a big city, both together and separately before we got married. Now with a child, we’re realizing how much is going to change in just a few years— our child will be going to school. This means we have to eventually say our good-byes to city-living and welcome a suburban lifestyle. At first, I thought I’d have to give up a lot, like my social life, for instance. But that’s obviously not true. I also thought we’d succumb to a “boring” lifestyle which I’ve dreaded thinking about— but in actuality, we’re just entering a whole new phase of life which is also fun and exciting.
I’ve noticed how surburban cities are becoming more and more inviting— with tons of bars, restaurants, shopping, and a little “downtown” of their own. This is a huge relief because it makes that transition from urban to suburbia that much easier. My husband and I have already shortlisted some of the areas in which we want to live and raise our child. Those situated in a top-rated school district.
Our future, perhaps just like any other parent undergoing the same transition in life, would help us become even better parents— surrounding ourselves with other parents who are sending their kid(s) to the same school, regular play dates, etc. Plus, I must say, I’m stoked about attending Open Houses and parent/teacher conferences in the future. I used to enjoy having my parents come to my school when I was young. To be on the flip side— well that’s just crazy!
