Toughest Job In The World

Is Being a Mom.

Before having kids, I used to hear this all the time and never believed it. My thought: it can’t be THAT hard to take care of children.

Now that I have two kids (under 2), I realize that I could not be MORE wrong! Such a shame how much I underestimated parental responsibility— especially that of a mother. A new mom who’s learning the ropes. Realizing this inspired me to start this blog— a go-to guide for moms who are just starting their motherhood journey.

Being a mom is hands-down the toughest job on the planet. Period. I know there are a ton of demanding jobs out there, but they don’t compare to the job of a mom. They just don’t come close. Why? Because everything about motherhood is so intense.

As you know, it all starts with pregnancy and then delivery. Pregnancy doesn’t hurt but the toughest part is that there’s so much you’re physically not able to do like certain workouts and basic things like going up and down the stairs, sleeping on your belly or back and bending. Then there’s delivery— which, to be honest, was a pretty painful experience both times for me. I experienced at least 45 minutes of contractions in the first and over an hour of contractions in my second— it was almost unbearable. I highly recommend getting epidural as soon as you can to avoid the pain and discomfort. (By the way, every woman has a different pain tolerance… mine apparently is super low).

Then as soon as the baby comes, a new set of challenges and responsibilities are headed your way— the endless pumping, feeding, and sleepless nights. Whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding, or doing some combination of the two, it’s a lot. And don’t even get me started on the nighttime routine— it’s pretty brutal. My baby wakes up every 2 hours for a feeding and/or diaper change. I also need to pump throughout the night so as I’m doing that, I’m also feeding him. My husband and I take turns throughout the night. It’s been over a month and I feel we’re still getting re-acquainted with taking care of a newborn.

And it’s not just the physical stuff—it’s the emotional labor, too. A mom’s EQ (emotional intelligence) is on another level. It has to be. You’re the one who’s there 24/7, nurturing, soothing, and basically trying to keep a tiny human alive while juggling everything else in your life. It’s constant, and it’s exhausting.

Every job out there eventually ends for the day—you clock out, you go home, you unwind. Being a mom? There’s no clocking out. It’s a never-ending cycle of feedings, diaper changes, snuggles, meltdowns, and more feedings. And even when you do get a little downtime, your brain is still in mom mode. You’re always thinking about your kids—what they need, how they’re feeling, whether they’re happy, safe, or thriving.

So yeah, being a mom is the toughest job in the world. Hands down. It’s demanding and absolutely relentless. But here’s the thing: it’s also the most important job in the world. Because at the end of the day, we’re raising kids. And that’s worth every sleepless night, every messy moment, and every ounce of energy we put into it.

So, to all the moms out there: you’re doing the hardest job out there, and you’re crushing it. Keep going— you’ve got this!
