I want this article to talk about the things that you should include in your baby shower registry. A lot of items should be at the top of the list: a stroller, crib, car seats, or even a bunch of diapers. These things add up and are necessary… obviously. Your close friends and family are more than willing to help you out as you introduce your new little one to the world oh so soon!
My husband and I listed all those things. It truly helped us out in the long run. For example, we’ve been using the stroller that we were gifted through our registry for over 15 months. It’s been such a huge lifesaver. I kid you not, it’s our most prized possession. It’s helped us with travel, road trips, going to the beach, etc.
One item I would recommend not adding to your registry is clothes/onesies. First of all, this is inevitable- people will buy you regardless, whether it’s on the registry or not. Second of all, speaking for myself and a bunch of people I know who have little ones too, soon-to-be parents LOVE to start shopping for clothes for their new baby. And because they grow so fast, it’s best to not have too many. Trust me, I have a ton of clothes my kid never even wore because he simply grew too quickly. And I didn’t have enough time to have him wear every onesie, outfit, etc. Soo.. in short, I would strongly advise against listing it as a registry item.
Toys are the opposite. It’s perfectly fine to have a lot of them BUT I would recommend not having your LO play with all of them at once. Give them a few to play with and change it up every so often so they don’t get bored. Also make sure that these toys are age-appropriate because if they’re too old for it, it could cause a developmental regression and you obviously don’t want that.
Just to recap, I’m listing out all the essentials you should consider including in your registry. Links to these are also included!
-
Stroller. You want one that is great for baby and for you! Storage space doesn’t hurt!
-
Car seat. I would get two, an infant slash baby car seat and a toddler car seat.
-
Crib. I don’t think a bassinet is really necessary. Your infant lies on their back for the first few months so there’s not much moving in their sleep. A crib should be safe!
-
Diapers. Load up on diapers because apparently babies in their first year go through over 2,000 diapers and that’s a big expense.
-
Toys your little one can play with.
-
Sleep sacks/swaddles to keep your baby warm at night when they’re sleeping.
-
Baby camera where you can watch your baby at night making sure that he or she is sleeping well. If they’re crying then you’ll know you need to attend to them right away.
-
Baby bottles with the different nipple sizes. You also want to get the appropriate cleaning bottles to sanitize the bottles each time after use!
-
Bath soap and shampoos. Newborns don’t bathe too often (at most 2 or 3 times a week) or else their skin will dry out. But when they are the age for regular, more frequent baths, these will come in handy.
-
High chair. You want to get one that is good for newborns to toddlers. The one we have is adjustable for ages 0 to 5.
If I think of more essential items, I’ll be adding to this list!
Good luck with creating your registry!
